These two teams are playing in place of the banned teams Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years. CSK and RR are suspended for their alleged role in illegal match fixing and batting scandal. RPS is captained by former CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad made their debut in IPL 2013. This team is led by David Warner.

In their first encounter of IPL 2016, Pune team has defeated Hyderabad by 34 runs. SRH batted first and lost their inform batsman, skipper David Warner in the 4th ball of the innings. Till the eighth over they have lost 5 wickets in just 32 runs and it was looking hard for them to score 100 runs, but Shikhar Dhawan took the lead and remained not out. He made valuable 56 runs to take his team to a respectable score of 118 runs in 20 overs. Though while chasing RPS also lost their first wicket in the form of Ajinkya Rahane, the team was at easy position. But the rain stopped the match and it cannot be resumed. RPS has already made 94 runs in 11 overs so it was already clear that the winner will be the Pune team by Duckworths- Lewis method.
